Basic elements of Web Development

Definition Of Web Development
Web Development is a broad term and is at times confused with web design but should never be mistaken as such. Web Development includes any activity related to development of a web site for the Web or an Internet. This can include e-commerce business development, web design, web content development, client-side/server-side scripting (egg. PHP, JavaScript etc.), and web server configuration. However, among web professionals, web development usually refers to the non-design aspects of building web sites, e.g. writing markup and coding. Web development can range from developing the simplest static single page of plain text to the most complex web-based Internet applications, electronic businesses, or social network services. Web development teams can span over hundreds of people (web developers) for larger businesses or can be as little as a single web master. Web development is more of a collaborative effort among different departments rather than then single effort of a designated department.
Advantages of Web Development
  1. The biggest advantage for anyone, designers and those in other professions, is an increase in productivity.
  2. Most designers have some type of workflow that involves using multiple programs at any given time.
  3. If you’re interested in being more connected and accessible to clients or to other professionals in your network, you may find that a second screen can make this much more feasible
  4. Many designers are working from laptops and not staying at one desk all day every day. Setting up an additional monitor is easy with most laptops now.
  5. Some designers use Skype for video conferencing with clients or colleagues.
  6. More advanced set ups can obviously get more complicated, but a second screen is not difficult in most situations.
Disadvantages of Web Development
  1. Probably the biggest disadvantage to having more than one screen is the added risk of distractions.
  2. From a technical perspective, a disadvantage is that the resources of the video card are divided between each display. Depending on your system and what programs you are running, you may notice a difference in performance.
  3. Unfortunately, the amount of available space of a desk can easily be a hindrance when it comes to getting set up for maximum efficiency.
  4. While the cost has come down considerably, it is still a barrier in some situations, especially for those who are uncertain if they would even prefer working with a second screen.
  5. This is an issue that you won’t encounter on smaller displays where you tend to work with one maximized window at a time.
